Since 1993, Tower Automotive has been making successful body structures, lower vehicle structures,
suspension components and modules for nearly every major automotive manufacturer in the world,
including: BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Fiat, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Honda, Renault,
Nissan, Hyundai Group, Isuzu, Mazda, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo. They have over 60 locations
in four continents, 12,000+ people and annual revenues of over $2.5 billion.
Business Challenge
Tower Automotive was nearing completion of their new technology center in MI. Their technology
moving group had already decided to upgrade their existing phone system and move it to the new
location. As the moving date approached, management mandated a review of specifications, pricing
and features for all voice and data services.
OT Solution
OPTIMUM TECHNOLOGY (OT) created a high-level technology plan encompassing all key voice and data
systems to support Tower Automotive’s strategic goals. Detailed analysis tools were populated
along technical and functional issues including international communications. New pricing was
renegotiated with all their vendors. OT’s in- depth cost analysis determined that replacing the
new phone system with the newer technology Internet Protocol platform was more cost effective
then upgrading their existing phone system.
OT contributed a single source solution avoiding costly delays and additional rework, and
completed the overall technology action plan by implementing a robust technology action plan that
supplied a solid return on investment and by enabling timely determination of cost saving revenue.
The Impact
OT’s new technology plan generated high-value results for Tower Automotive via improved international
communications with their manufacturing plant in Mexico. Cost savings were in excess of $10,000
monthly with a twelve month Return on Investment (ROI) on their phone system.
